The Baroque
World of Don Carlos
Set designer Ming Cho Lee
and costume designer Robert Perdziola have delved into the world of the
Spanish Baroque to create the pomp and palaces of the court of Don
Carlos. Ming Cho Lee’s designs for Don Carlos transform from
the lush halls of the king's throne room to the emptiness of Don
Carlos's jail cell. "I wanted to create a long sparse area that was
austere and uncomplicated. This is not operatic, it's a chamber piece.
It's tighter in concentration."

Following along
those lines, Robert Perdziola added that "this is the Catholic
feverishness in the Spanish court. The silhouettes are simple. I would
feel successful if I can bring focus to the face, to the actor and the
character."
